We poison,
We overwhelm,
We physically damage.
Living our lives,
Unknowing, unaware.
We march forward
Rank upon rank,
Destroying, pillaging,
Taking what we want.
Using nature
In the worst way we can
As a slave to replace,
Or commons to abuse.
We shove and we push,
Her systems so hard
That the cycles are breaking
And we start to suffer
As our world falls apart.
But there is an answer,
A solution that’s clear
Denying despair.
We need to re-think ,
Re-train, re-direct
The ranks.
We need
To acknowledge,
Where we live,
Understand,
That there is no such place,
As “away”.
We need,
To step into
Our place,
In nature.
To realise,
That circles have,
No end.
To gaze into the future
And tell those,
Who came after,
That we took,
The RoundView.

About the poem

Original poem by:

Spun From Air and Sunlight

Biology lecturer

Spun From Air and Sunlight is a 56 year old Biology lecturer from the midlands, he rediscovered poetry as a way to express his feelings after the death of his wife in 2023 and passionately believes that behind the sadness this world is filled with, and driven by, the power of joy. When he discovered RoundView he was blown away to realise that it was the missing piece of the puzzle that lets humans understand how they fit into the wonderful network that is life on Earth.
